Earthbody began as an eco-friendly day spa located in Hayes Valley, San Francisco. When founder and CEO Denmo Ibrahim couldn’t find the herbal-infused body oils she wanted to use in treatment she decided to make her own. Clients loved the products and asked to purchase them for home use. After several years they had a full line of skincare they were using in treatments and made available for purchase at their spa. They wanted to extend their brand into wider markets by introducing the skincare line to 5 star spas, boutique shops and specialty grocery stores. I was hired to build their new skincare brand and packaging, and eventually joined the team full time as marketing director.
The average woman applies over 500 chemicals to her body each day. We identified a need to create a brand that was a beautiful invitation to return to your senses through highly functional, 100% plant-based skincare. The brand needed to feel at home in luxury spas, yoga studios, and natural grocers while paying homage to the products' roots in Ayurveda.
After only a few months in the new packaging and with a handful of San Francisco boutique shops featuring the product lineup, Earthbody received a phone call from the Whole Body buyer at the Castro Whole Foods Market. Whole Foods was the first of many surprise calls from buyers looking to bring the “beautiful new skincare” line into their stores.
